Our manuscript has been accepted for publication! What now?
Congratulations! Your article will now enter our manuscript production process.
Our team of experienced technical editors provide a thorough and extensive copyediting and proofreading service. Additionally, our skilled production team will redraw figures wherever required, helping to illustrate your work with clear, vivid figure art.
Is any further action required from us at this stage?
Upon acceptance, we ask all authors to grant ERS a licence to allow us to publish the work. Authors are given access to an online form in order to confirm copyright transfer. See https://www.ersjournals.com/authors/copyright-and-reuse.
Will we be sent pre-publication proofs?
Yes – the corresponding/contact author will be sent a proof, which should be shared with all authors for before returning to the office with comments and/or corrections.
When can we expect publication?
European Respiratory Journal, ERJ Open Research, and European Respiratory Review are published under a continuous publication model. Under this publication model, articles are published online with full citation details soon after they have been copyedited, typeset and proofread. The exact time to publication may depend upon the number of articles that have been accepted recently, as well as whether the editors wish to commission an editorial to accompany your article.
For this reason, some articles may take longer than others to be ready for publication. Authors are welcome to contact the editorial office for a firmer estimate of publication date – see the contact points below.
In some cases the editors or the ERS communications team may schedule publication to coincide with a press release or co-publication. In such cases, we will inform the authors well ahead of schedule.
Can we publish the article open access?
The ERS publications offer a range of open access options, including author self-archiving (“green open access”).
ERJ authors can opt to make their article open access under the Creative Commons Attribution Non-commercial Licence 4.0 ('CC-BY-NC'). Such articles will be made free to view on the ERJ website, as well as being deposited in PubMed Central. Authors whose work is supported by particular funders or covered by a “read and publish” institutional subscription may publish their work in the ERJ under the Creative Commons Attribution Licence 4.0 ('CC-BY'). For more information, see: https://erj.ersjournals.com/authors/instructions#OPEN_ACCESS
ERJ Open Research and ERR article submissions received from 1 January 2021 may be liable to a publication fee if accepted. See whether you are affected at https://www.ersjournals.com/authors/2021-author-publication-charges.
All content in Breathe is free to access online, and is published under the CC-BY-NC licence.
Full details regarding open access, public archiving and funder mandates can be found on the individual journals’ websites, in the author instructions:
